Well, I’m back. Aruba was amazing - as always. I did precious little there except read and relax - which was incredibly, unbelievably, amazingly wonderful. (Eek - adverbs! I know I’m not supposed to use them, but I can’t help myself… teehee)
I am running around like a chicken sans head trying to get [...]

But no posts this week. I’m on VACATION.
If you need a daily dose of me in my absence, I’m featured on Scarlett Rains’ Poetic Musings all week, so please check them out!!
If you need something ELSE to read, here’s my recommendations for alterna-sources of Jill-Elizabeth- approved material (i.e., these are the [...]

Happy Tuesday everyone! I have good news: last week I completed my library adult summer reading challenge!! Granted, it was only six books. And they gave you two months to finish them. And I finished mine almost two weeks before you are even allowed to turn in your “completed” list. And it looks like you only get to claim six books and no more (so much for promoting over-achievement, sigh). But still…
So it looks the “I have to read library books” pressure is off. Which is nice, because my TBR list of books I own is LONG. And the vast vast majority of my books aren’t even unpacked yet, so the “LONG” of which I speak is only a minuscule representation of the collection of TBR things. Eek. Again, I’m going with “but still…” though, because at least I’m working my way through some of them.

Today I’m pleased to feature a guest post by author Barbara Conelli, as a part of the virtual book tour for her latest endeavor Chique Secrets of Dolce Amore. There’s also a free online gift bag, full of chique gifts courtesy of Barbara, so check out the end…
This one is especially near and dear to my heart, since it covers one of the areas of book publishing/writing that is the least attractive to me: marketing. Don’t get me wrong - I am a huge fan of shameless self-promotion every now and again, as evidenced by posts whenever I am named for a blogging award or featured somewhere. I even have an awards page. (teehee) But that kind of promotion I’m okay with. It’s the *real* kind that sets me to rocking in the corner…
I have never enjoyed marketing or advertising or public relations or promotions. I worked in Big Pharma for a number of years, and it was one of the pieces of that world that made me the most uncomfortable. I don’t care for the game that you have to play to sell things. Never have, and most likely never will. But it’s an inexplicable part of the writing/publishing process (as it is of most other processes in the modern world), and like it or not, I am going to have to do it. Barbara’s advice made me feel a teensy bit better about it. I’m still not looking forward, mind you, but do think that she has her finger exactly on what makes people like me so uncomfortable - and maybe, just maybe, that finger-tip has also managed to highlight a way to help us deal better with the discomfort… Here’s hoping you agree!

Going in a slightly different direction today… This is a book spine poem. The idea is not mine - it came from my local library’s adult summer reading program (brilliant program, btw). Their rules: arrange the spines of any number of books of your choosing so that the titles comprise a poem/tell a story. Then you take a picture and submit it - the librarians will pick the one they like best and that person will win a “gift basket of book-related items.” How clever and fabulous!
So of course I had to enter.
